Meera Chandran is one of the founder members of NGO, Forest First which works on the restoration of degraded land by conserving indigenous floral species of Western Ghats through community participation. Forest First has worked on over 300 acres of land under restoration in the past 12 years and has conserved over 150 tree species of Western Ghats in degraded forest lands of Wayanad, sacred groves and coffee estates of Kodagu through a 3-year long restoration program.
In 2021, Forest First provided 10,000 person-days of local livelihoods to over 45 people in Wayanad through forest land restoration. Meera took up eco-restoration after leaving her 16 year-long IT profession in 2014 in an attempt to translate science to spade.
